The Newcastle Probus Bowls Team.
Bowls has recently been re-established within the Club with one newly constituted team now preparing to participate in the Greater Newcastle Probus Open Pennant competition. The team undertakes practice sessions on Monday afternoons and Gala Tournaments each Friday at the Lowlands Bowls Club.
The Pennant Competition involves the participation of Probus Bowls teams from throughout the Greater Newcastle area, with events being hosted by respective Probus clubs. As a participant in the Pennant Competition, Newcastle Probus will act as Host for one of the events, at a date and venue yet to be confirmed.
The Pennant Competition offers competitors the opportunity to meet and participate with other Probus members in an enjoyable and friendly day out at a variety of lawn bowl venues throughout the region. Competition whilst competitive is light hearted and a convivial lunch followed by prize giving completes an excellent day out.
Members will be advised of the Regional Competition dates and venues as they become available.
Current Schedule:
April – Cessnock, On Monday 7 April our Bowls team, comprising Barney Whitehead, Brian Prior and Robbie
Robinson headed from Newcastle to the East Cessnock Bowls Club to participate in the third match of the Hunter Regional inter Probus Bowls competition, hosted by Cessnock Probus.
Despite losing both matches, it was a most enjoyable day out and allowed our Bowls team to better get to
know our neighbouring Probus bowls teams. The next Hunter Regional match is scheduled to be played at
Morpeth in August.
